How much does a residential solar system cost in Pondicherry?

A typical 3kW residential system costs ₹1.5–1.8 lakh before subsidies. Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, the subsidy is ₹30,000 for 1kW, ₹60,000 for 2kW, and ₹78,000 for 3kW & above — credited directly to your bank account. For a 3kW system, your net investment is around ₹72,000–1 lakh with a payback period of 4–6 years.

Will solar work during power cuts and cloudy days?

Grid-tied systems (without battery) do not work during power cuts for safety reasons. For backup power, we recommend a hybrid or off-grid system with battery storage. Cloudy days reduce output by 50–70% but systems still generate power — Pondicherry gets excellent solar irradiance year-round, making it ideal for solar.

How long does installation take?

Typical residential installation takes 1–2 days. Commercial systems may take 3–7 days depending on scale. After installation, we apply for PED net meter connection which takes 15–30 days for approval. Total time from order to grid-connected: 30–45 days.

What maintenance does a solar system need?

Solar panels require minimal maintenance — primarily quarterly cleaning to remove dust and bird droppings. Our AMC service includes 4 site visits per year for cleaning, inverter health checks, electrical safety inspection, and performance verification. A well-maintained system can last 25+ years.

What warranties do you provide?

We provide: 25-year linear performance warranty on panels (minimum 80% output at Year 25), 5-year product warranty on panels, 5–10 year warranty on inverters, 2-year warranty on mounting structures, and 1-year workmanship warranty from Greenergy. We only use Tier-1 MNRE-approved components.

Can I get solar if I am a tenant (not property owner)?

Typically, solar installations require the owner's consent as they are fixed to the building. However, we offer creative solutions including portable solar setups for balconies, and can help negotiate agreements with landlords. Some financing structures allow ownership transfer. I am Kannan Selvam, Founding Partner of Greenergy Solar Solutions. Having studied electrical engineering and later specialised in green energy technology, I understood early on that Pondicherry — blessed with sunshine almost year-round — had enormous potential that was simply going unused. Together with my partners, I wanted to do something meaningful with that potential for the community we grew up in.

We began small, with a handful of installations and a team of people who cared as much as we did. Over the years, we grew — not by chasing numbers, but by doing right by every customer who placed their trust in us.
